OMNI-VDR

FEATURES

The OMNI-VDR can be used on any drill-string, whether rotary, RSS, or with motor to tackle downhole problems. It also acts as an insurance against costly stuck-pipe situations and Loss in Hole (LIH). It has an improved hole quality, more efficient WOB transmission to the bit (higher ROP), reduce drilling torque as well as casing running time while providing damping of vibrations.

Main PDC Cutting Structure:

  • Hardfacing is added around the PDCs to protect against erosion and wear.
  • PDCs are mounted on blade tapers on the downhole and backreaming sides.
  • The cutting structure can be upgraded to suit heavy-duty as well as extra heavy-duty drilling conditions.
  • PDC cutter matrix is optimally positioned on an odd number of spiraled blades for minimum vibrations during cutting.
  • PDC distribution is engineered to achieve uniform wear on all PDCs throughout their service life. This improves durability of the cutting structure and achieves a smoother cutting action.
  • The PDC structure is designed such that the top most PDC (gauge PDC) is always located below the TCI reaming structure. Hence, during normal drilling conditions, the TCIs alone are engaged with the formation, reaming the borehole. Only in the case of an under-gauge obstruction or irregularity, e.g. tight spot, the PDCs will come into action and actively cut through the obstruction. Therefore, the PDCs will not add to drilling torque unless needed.

The OMNI-VDR blade coverage can be customized in three variation to suit application:

  1. 120° Coverage
  2. 180° Coverage
  3. 360° Coverage

The standard OMNI-VDR is designed with API 360° coverage. For motor applications involving high sliding portions blade coverage can be reduced to improve sliding performance of the tool.
